Through Michael Elson’s professional experience in the VFX Industry, this talk will take us back to the early days of digital filmmaking, exploring the pivotal moments and groundbreaking films that have shaped the industry and impacted his life. We will discuss the relentless advance of technology and how it has disrupted and driven the industry. While innovation often leads to the obsolescence of old techniques, it invariably opens up exciting new creative avenues.

Michael Elson
Michael began his career in the 1980s with digital film pioneers The Computer Film Company and has since held a multitude of roles in film and advertising post-production companies. Michael was Chief Operating Officer at The Moving Picture Company (MPC). He founded the film company with an initial staff of half a dozen grew to over 800 people in London and opened its first overseas office in Vancouver.
He has worked on complex, high-end animation and visual effects projects, throughout his career. He was the executive producer of Dredd, produced by DNA Films, and the Emmy-nominated animated children’s television series Dennis and Gnasher Unleashed for CBBC, among others.
Michael now runs his consultancy The Frank Trading Co, working with film and television producers and post-production companies. And when he’s not working, he can be found taking photographs of sunsets in Whitstable.
